Some people wonder why the hell we spend all our time, effort, money on these old, rusty and gutless RWD Japanese cars. “Why don’t you just get into a Silvia or a Skyline?” they say. “Enough power to get into it, loads of parts available and you don’t have to deal with rust” in a convincing sort of way they speak. Well I think they’re missing the point.

Old Japanese cars are terrible! They are slow, rattly, uncomfortable, they dent easier than a new-born, have little space in most of them and they rust; oh man they rust. That may be enough to put you off wanting an old Japanese car….possibly.

In reality however, they kick ass. You can pick them up cheap, if you have chosen the right model you can usually find parts easily and cheaply (not so much for some), and if they break down? Just bust out the screw driver, piece of sandpaper from the ash tray and that bit of rag from behind the seat and wha lah! If it’s terminal? Go get another one, this time get a cheaper, crappier one so you don’t feel bad (and it doesn’t destroy your wallet) when you put it into the barrier at the track.

A bunch of dudes who ‘get it’ are GOGO KP. Look through the past events and tell me they are not enjoying classic car life. As you guessed it, the group is mainly KP starlets and like myself (this is a Datsun blog) they do not discriminate against other like-minded people/cars. You will find corollas, Datsuns, old Soarers, and the likes at their meets all just beating on what they brought and loving it.

This is possibly one of the best examples I’ve seen of love for our crappy old cars. Go through and find the videos, look through the photos, see how many kps there are tearing up the track. I want in on some of that!
