This thing always makes me laugh. Nick has been drifting this for a while now with nothing more than a locker, BCs and a bucket seat and well… it’s taken a bit of a beating. The last things added to it was a hydraulic handbrake, a pair of Nick S’s Rodders up front and some rack spacers. It wasn’t exactly a tidy example when it first hit the tarmac but as Nick has gotten better and it’s seen more and more track time, the body has taken a toll. I haven’t posted to many photos of it drifting because it’s not the nicest thing to look at but I think it deserves a mention now that it’s looking like something you’d find in a Motorfix field (without the cool history and back stories haha). Winter’s coming fast and hard guys, keen to see you on the track again soon before it’s all rain and penguins.

Why you so happy Keisuke? Is it because you’re drifting your notch after a dope 21st birthday drift session? Yeah I’d say that’s probably it. How about a big mac in your combo there too?

Keisuke’s father is over from Japan at the moment and came down for most of the day to get some seat time in. He’s probably over the moon to see the thing actually move after sitting on his property in Japan for 30,000 years
This will be the last meremere day for some time I think. Both Nicks NA6s need a tidy up and in all honesty I am pretty sick and tired of manjis.

It can be a total ass to try keep photos looking consistent when you shoot over a whole day. Even more so when heavy rain turns into blaring sunshine. I tried but sometimes there are photos you have to put in a set regardless of it not fitting in at all. I’ve converted a bunch of video to begin the painful journey of making a video on this sack of crap laptop. It won’t be up for a while yet as I’m going away however.

We went out to a private track day at Meremere yesterday with fingers crossed it wasn’t going to pour down all day. It got a bit wet at times but for the most part it was dry and super fun with only a handful of people on the track at once. Nicks NA6 has seen a tonne of track time lately and it’s starting to show on that front bumper. It’s well overdue for a clean up and for the 1800 to go in but with lots of track days coming up I’m unsure if it will get much attention, this car is for driving.
Keisuke came down with us and with an practically stock 16V it was an almost perfect match for some tandems, although the 4AGE is noticeably faster than the B6. I shot a load of video for Nick over the day so he could see what he looks like driving (no one’s really videoing much lately?) so I will put together a rough edit at some point.
I put down the camera for about 40 minutes in the middle of the day and took the NA6 out on the full track, working on someone else’s cars has its perks! I’m still amazed how fun it is for how little is done, although Keisuke’s 86 is much easier to drift (thanks dude). It took me a while to get used to limiting the speed to keep it sliding but once I did I got smoother fairly quickly and it felt much less forced. Nick’s getting a lot better with all the seat time and had full track manjis pretty locked by the end of the day. A little more power and it’ll be able to comfortably do the hairpin and link it with the rest of the track.
The drift area is actually the braking area of a drag strip and having only one corner can get kinda boring near the end of the day. To have a bit of fun I was pushing Keisuke and Nick to sit on full lock as they passed me for a few BILSPEER propaganda shots and they came out pretty cool.
Somehow I still managed to shoot way to much out there so there is still lots to come. I can’t wait to be driving instead so I don’t have to go through 18GB of media. Currently working as much as I can to afford the next stage of the build as well as a surf trip in February. Stay tuned.

Nick and Keisuke painted the cage in Nick’s NA6 a few weekends back now and I shot a few photos of it when I got home from work. It’s black with a red pearl tinted clear coat over it. 95% of the time it just looks black but the odd time it gets in the sun the red comes out. Nick doesn’t have a blog (clearly isn’t very cool) so I suppose his car can live through beeoneoneoh. There are a few track days coming up before the end of the year so as long as Nick keeps this in one piece I should have some more photos/video of it being used up soon.

As far as cheap and clean goes, Mazda nailed the interior for their NA6 and I think the only alterations worth doing are ones which will elevate the level of cleanliness. Nick’s done a pretty sweet job at keeping it low key and his new quick release for the Nardi only adds to it all whilst keeping his paranoid mind at bay. I had yet to properly photograph that alluring cabin so when we fitted the QR on Tuesday after drilling out Keisuke’s wheels I couldn’t help myself. I shot these in colour which I’m pretty happy with but then I started to play with a greyscale version and had to make the decision, greyscale runs through my veins! Next I’ll somehow have to try squeeze myself and my camera in there to take a proper shot of the seats and cage.

We went to a quiet and sunny cone day at Meremere yesterday and as always, it ruled. I must say for the most part it was dominated by AE86s and NA6s but that’s cool. I didn’t shoot much, instead choosing to hang out in the sun with mates and drive Nicks (above) car a bit. No one stacked their car or took their head off in the wire fence, or even killed any drive train. Impressed.
